Treatments with Dermal Fillers in Sompting, Worthing – Diana Aesthetics

Dermal fillers can be used in many areas of the face and body, including

  • Lips for volume, definition, and symmetry
  • Cheeks to restore fullness and lift sagging skin
  • Nasolabial folds to smooth lines between the nose and mouth
  • Marionette lines to reduce downward creases beside the chin
  • Tear troughs to improve the appearance of tired eyes
  • Jawline and chin for contour and balance
  • Nose correction to smooth bumps or irregularities non surgically
  • Hands and neck to restore youthful appearance

Dermal fillers are suitable for individuals who wish to:

  • Restore volume loss due to ageing
  • Soften wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improve facial symmetry and proportions
  • Enhance lips or facial contours
  • Achieve a refreshed, youthful appearance without surgery
  • Improve skin texture and hydration

Dermal filler treatment should be avoided or delayed in the following cases

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine
  • Autoimmune disorders or compromised immune system
  • History of severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis
  • Recent dental work or facial surgery
  • Use of blood thinning medication unless approved by a medical professional
  • Vaccinations – 2 weeks before or after
  • Antibiotics – 2 weeks
  • Active cancer treatments
  • Immediate visible results
  • Minimal downtime compared to surgery
  • Natural looking enhancement when performed by a trained professional
  • Stimulates collagen production for long term improvement
  • Reversible in most cases if hyaluronic acid filler is used
  • Enhances confidence and self esteem

The treatment begins with a consultation to assess the individual’s needs and determine the appropriate filler type and technique. The skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be applied for comfort. The filler is then injected using a fine needle or cannula into targeted areas. The procedure typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the treatment area. Mild swelling or redness may occur and usually settles within a few days.

  • The first dermal fillers were developed in the 1980s using collagen derived from animals.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers can hold up to one thousand times their weight in water, giving the skin a plump hydrated look
  • Dermal fillers are one of the most requested non surgical aesthetic procedures worldwide
  • They can be completely dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed
  • Some fillers are designed to stimulate natural collagen production for longer lasting effects

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure optimal healing, comfort, and long-lasting results. Following these guidelines will help reduce the risk of side effects and enhance the final outcome of your treatment.

Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated areas. The filler needs time to settle into place.
  • Keep the area clean and avoid applying any makeup or skincare products for at least 12 to 24 hours to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, or salty foods, as they can worsen swelling and bruising.
  • Do not apply any hot/cold compress unless adviced to do so by the practicioner.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, gym sessions, or heavy lifting for 24 hours.

First Few Days (Days 1 to 3)

  • Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising are normal and usually resolve within a few days.
  • Avoid hot environments such as saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or long hot showers, as heat can increase swelling.
  • Do not expose your face to direct sunlight or sunbeds. Use SPF 30 or higher if you need to go outside.
  • Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which supports healing and maintains filler hydration.
  • Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated using an extra pillow to minimise swelling and prevent pressure on the treated areas.
  • Avoid applying firm pressure (for example, wearing tight hats, goggles, or sleeping facedown).

First Week (Days 4 to 7)

  • Swelling and bruising should begin to fade. If you notice unevenness, lumps, or asymmetry during this time, it may simply be due to temporary swelling.
  • Avoid dental treatments or facial massages for one week, as manipulation may move the filler before it stabilises.
  • Continue gentle skincare — use a mild cleanser and fragrance-free moisturiser. Avoid exfoliating acids, retinol, or strong active ingredients until the skin has fully settled.
  • Do not use lipstick or heavy makeup on treated lips for at least three days after lip filler procedures.

Two Weeks After Treatment

  • By this stage, the filler has settled into its final position, and you should see the full result.
  • If you have any concerns about the symmetry, volume, or texture, book a review appointment with your practitioner.
  • Continue protecting your skin with SPF daily and maintain good hydration.
  • Avoid facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser therapy, or microneedling until at least two weeks post-procedure (or longer if advised).

What to Expect During Healing

  • Mild tenderness or tightness is normal and can last a few days.
  • Small bruises may occur and fade gradually. Arnica cream or tablets may help reduce bruising.
  • Most people resume normal activities within 24 hours, though full settling can take up to two weeks.

When to Contact Your Practitioner Immediately

Seek medical advice if you experience any of the following

  • Severe pain or increasing discomfort after the procedure
  • Skin that appears pale, dusky, or has patchy discoloration
  • Significant or uneven swelling that worsens rather than improves
  • Lumps or nodules that feel hard, painful, or hot
  • Signs of infection such as redness, warmth, or pus at the injection site
  • Visual disturbances such as blurred vision or sudden changes in sight
  • Numbing cream can last up to 2 hours, after that time the feeling should fully come back. Numbness of injected / surounding area is a sign of complication.

Prompt assessment ensures safe management and prevents complications.

Long-Term Care and Maintenance Tips

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet to support skin quality.
  • Avoid smoking, as it accelerates filler breakdown and affects skin elasticity.
  • Schedule regular maintenance treatments every six to eighteen months, depending on the filler type and area treated.
  • Always have top-ups or dissolving treatments performed by a qualified, trained aesthetic practitioner.
