A consultation is carried out to assess suitability and plan thread placement. The skin is cleansed and numbed with local anaesthetic. Fine threads are then inserted under the skin using a cannula or fine needle. Once positioned, the threads are gently tightened to lift the tissue.

The treatment typically takes between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the areas treated. Results are visible immediately, with further improvement over the following weeks as collagen production increases. Threads gradually dissolve over time, leaving behind a supportive network of natural collagen.

  • Thread lifts originated in the 1990s and have evolved significantly with safer materials and techniques.
  • PDO threads are made from the same material used for medical sutures that safely dissolve in the body.
  • The lifting effect is immediate, but collagen stimulation continues for months after treatment.
  • Different types of threads serve different purposes — some lift, while others smooth and tighten.
  • Thread lifts are sometimes called the “lunchtime facelift” due to the quick recovery time.

Aftercare is crucial to support healing, maximise lifting effects, and minimise the risk of complications.

Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)

  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or washing your face for at least 12 hours.
  • Do not apply makeup or skincare products until the next day.
  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid any unnecessary facial movements.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, as they can slow healing and increase bruising.
  • Apply a cold compress wrapped in a clean cloth to reduce swelling or discomfort.
  • Avoid vigorous activity, bending, or lifting heavy objects.
  • Sleep on your back with your head elevated to prevent pressure on the treated areas.
  • Sleep with a special band provided by practicioner for at least a week.

First Few Days (Days 1 to 5)

  • Mild swelling, tenderness, or tightness is normal and may last several days.
  • Avoid exaggerated facial expressions such as wide smiling, yawning, or chewing hard foods. Choose soft foods and chew gently.
  • Do not rub or massage your face for at least one week.
  • Avoid dental treatments, facials, or any manipulation of the face.
  • Avoid heat exposure, saunas, steam rooms, or direct sunlight.
  • Continue sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated.
  • You may gently cleanse your face with mild products after 24 hours.

First Week (Days 5 to 7)

  • Residual bruising or puckering may occur and typically resolves within one to two weeks.
  • Avoid applying pressure when cleansing or applying skincare products.
  • Continue avoiding strenuous exercise, facial massages, or aesthetic treatments.
  • Use a soothing, hydrating serum and a daily SPF of 30 or higher.

Two to Three Weeks After Treatment

  • The skin will begin to feel more natural as swelling subsides and threads integrate.
  • Collagen stimulation is underway, and results will continue to improve.
  • You can resume light exercise after two weeks but avoid high-impact or contact activities.
  • Gentle skincare and moisturisers can now be used regularly.
  • Avoid dental treatments until at least three weeks after the procedure unless otherwise advised.

One to Three Months After Treatment

  • Full results become visible as collagen and elastin strengthen the skin’s structure.
  • Continue to protect the skin from UV exposure with daily SPF use.
  • Maintain hydration and a balanced diet to support skin health.
  • You may combine thread lift results with treatments such as mesotherapy or skin boosters after full healing, typically after four weeks.

What to Expect During Healing

  • Mild asymmetry or tightness can occur temporarily and usually settles as tissues relax.
  • Tiny dimples or small irregularities at insertion points may appear and resolve within a few days.
  • Occasional bruising, swelling, or tenderness are normal healing responses.
  • Avoid comparing results immediately — final results develop gradually over several weeks.
  • Expect mild discomfort for at least 6 weeks

When to Contact Your Practitioner Immediately

Seek professional advice if you experience any of the following

  • Persistent pain, swelling, or redness that worsens over time
  • Visible thread protrusion or exposure through the skin
  • Uneven dimpling or puckering that does not resolve
  • Signs of infection such as heat, pus, or fever
  • Severe bruising or bleeding at the insertion site

Prompt assessment will ensure timely management and a safe recovery.

Long-Term Care and Maintenance

  • Results generally last from 12 to 24 months, depending on the thread material and lifestyle factors.
  • Maintain good skin health with regular hydration, healthy nutrition, and sun protection.
  • Avoid smoking, as it reduces collagen production and may shorten results.
  • Schedule follow-up treatments or maintenance sessions as recommended by your practitioner.
